독수리 두 마리와 포도나무 한 그루
1. 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임해 말씀하셨다.
2. “사람아, 이스라엘 족속에게 수수께끼와 비유를 말하여라.
3. 너는 말하여라. ‘주 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. 날개가 크고 깃이 길고 숱이 많고 다양한 색깔의 깃털을 가진 거대한 독수리가 레바논으로 와서 백향목 가장 높은 가지를 차지했다.
4. 독수리가 그 맨 끝의 연한 가지를 꺾어서 상인들의 땅으로 가져가 상인들의 도시에 두었다.
5. 그리고 독수리가 그 땅의 씨를 얼마 가져다가 비옥한 땅에 심었다. 그는 그것을 풍족한 물가의 버드나무처럼 심었다.
6. 그것은 싹이 트고 낮게 드리운 포도나무가 됐다. 그 나뭇가지들은 독수리를 향해 있었고 그 뿌리들은 나무 밑에 있었다. 이렇게 씨가 포도나무가 돼 굵은 가지들과 가는 가지들을 냈다.
7. 그런데 날개가 크고 숱 많은 깃털을 가진 다른 거대한 독수리가 나타났다. 독수리가 자기에게 물을 줄까 해서 이 포도나무는 독수리를 향해 심겨진 곳에서 뿌리를 뻗고 가지를 뻗었다.
8. 가지를 뻗고 열매를 맺으며 훌륭한 포도나무가 되기에 충분한 물가 좋은 땅에 그 포도나무는 이미 심겨져 있었다.’
9. 그들에게 말하여라. ‘주 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. 그 포도나무가 번성하겠느냐? 독수리가 뿌리를 뽑고 열매를 따 버려서 그것이 시들지 않겠느냐? 새로 난 잎이 모두 시들어 버릴 것이다. 그것을 뿌리째 뽑는 데 강한 팔이나 많은 사람이 필요하지 않을 것이다.
10. 그것이 심겼다고 해서 번성하겠느냐? 동쪽 바람이 그 나무에 불 때 그것이 완전히 시들지 않겠느냐? 그 심겨진 밭에서 시들어 버리지 않겠느냐?’”
11. 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임해 말씀하셨다.
12. “반역하는 족속에게 ‘이것이 무슨 뜻인지 너희가 모르느냐?’하고 말하여라 ‘바벨론 왕이 예루살렘으로 와서 예루살렘 왕과 관료들을 잡아 그들을 바벨론으로 끌고 갔다.
13. 그리고 그가 왕의 자손 하나를 취해 언약을 맺고 맹세하게 했다. 그는 그 땅의 지도자들을 끌어갔다.
14. 이것은 그 나라의 지위가 실추되며 스스로 일어나지 못하고 그 조약을 지켜야만 일어날 수 있게 하려는 것이었다.
15. 그러나 그는 바벨론 왕에게 반역해 사절단을 이집트에 보내 그에게 말과 많은 군대를 지원하도록 했다. 그가 융성하겠느냐? 이런 일들을 한 그가 피신할 수 있겠느냐? 그가 그 조약을 깨고도 피신할 수 있겠느냐?
16. 내 삶을 두고 맹세한다. 바벨론 왕이 그를 왕으로 삼았는데 그가 바벨론 왕의 맹세를 무시하고 바벨론 왕의 조약을 어겼으니 그는 자신을 왕으로 세운 그 왕이 사는 곳, 바벨론 가운데서 왕과 함께 있다가 죽을 것이다. 주 여호와의 말이다.
17. 그들이 토성을 쌓고 포위 벽을 세워서 많은 사람을 죽이려고 할 때 강력한 군대와 큰 무리를 이끌고 있는 바로도 그 전쟁에서 아무것도 하지 못할 것이다.
18. 그가 맹세를 무시하고 언약을 어겼다. 그가 맹세를 하고도 이 모든 일을 저질렀기 때문에 그는 피신하지 못할 것이다.
19. 그러므로 나 주 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. 내 삶을 두고 맹세하는데 그가 무시한 내 맹세와 그가 어긴 내 언약을 내가 그의 머리에 갚을 것이다.
20. 내가 내 그물을 그의 위에 펼칠 것이니 그가 내 덫에 걸릴 것이다. 내가 그를 바벨론으로 끌고가 그가 내게 신실하지 못했던 일에 대해 그곳에서 그를 심판할 것이다.
21. 그의 모든 군대에서 도망친 사람은 모두 칼에 쓰러질 것이고 살아남은 사람들은 사방으로 흩어질 것이다. 그러고 나면 나 여호와가 말했음을 너희가 알게 될 것이다.
22. 나 주 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. 내 스스로 가장 높은 백향목 꼭대기에서 가지를 가져다 심을 것이다. 내가 그 꼭대기에 있는 가지들 가운데 연한 가지를 꺾어서 이를 높이 치솟은 산에 심을 것이다.
23. 내가 그것을 이스라엘의 높은 산 위에 심을 것이니 그것이 가지들을 내고 열매를 맺으며 훌륭한 백향목이 될 것이다. 갖가지 새들이 그 아래 둥지를 틀 것이고 그 나뭇가지 그늘에서 살 것이다.
24. 나 여호와가 키 큰 나무를 낮추고 키 작은 나무를 높였으며 푸른 나무를 말리고 마른 나무에 싹이 나게 했음을 들판의 모든 나무들이 알 것이다. 나 여호와가 말했고 그렇게 이루었다.’”

1. Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,
2. "Son of man, propound a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel,
3. saying, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "A great eagle with great wings, long pinions and a full plumage of many colors, came to Lebanon and took away the top of the cedar.
4. "He plucked off the topmost of its young twigs and brought it to a land of merchants; he set it in a city of traders.
5. "He also took some of the seed of the land and planted it in fertile soil. He placed [it] beside abundant waters; he set it [like] a willow.
6. "Then it sprouted and became a low, spreading vine with its branches turned toward him, but its roots remained under it. So it became a vine, and yielded shoots and sent out branches.
7. "But there was another great eagle with great wings and much plumage; and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and sent out its branches toward him from the beds where it was planted, that he might water it.
8. "It was planted in good soil beside abundant waters, that it might yield branches and bear fruit, [and] become a splendid vine." '
9. "Say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD," Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers-- so that all its sprouting leaves wither? And neither by great strength nor by many people can it be raised from its roots [again.]
10. "Behold, though it is planted, will it thrive? Will it not completely wither as soon as the east wind strikes it-- wither on the beds where it grew?" '"
11. Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me saying,
12. "Say now to the rebellious house, 'Do you not know what these things [mean?'] Say, 'Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, took its king and princes, and brought them to him in Babylon.
13. 'And he took one of the royal family and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. He also took away the mighty of the land,
14. that the kingdom might be in subjection, not exalting itself, [but] keeping his covenant, that it might continue.
15. 'But he rebelled against him by sending his envoys to Egypt that they might give him horses and many troops. Will he succeed? Will he who does such things escape? Can he indeed break the covenant and escape?
16. 'As I live,' declares the Lord GOD, 'Surely in the country of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, in Babylon he shall die.
17. 'And Pharaoh with [his] mighty army and great company will not help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build siege walls to cut off many lives.
18. 'Now he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and behold, he pledged his allegiance, yet did all these things; he shall not escape.' "
19. Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, "As I live, surely My oath which he despised and My covenant which he broke, I will inflict on his head.
20. "And I will spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My snare. Then I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there [regarding] the unfaithful act which he has committed against Me.
21. "And all the choice men in all his troops will fall by the sword, and the survivors will be scattered to every wind; and you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken."
22. Thus says the Lord GOD, "I shall also take [a sprig] from the lofty top of the cedar and set [it] out; I shall pluck from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I shall plant [it] on a high and lofty mountain.
23. "On the high mountain of Israel I shall plant it, that it may bring forth boughs and bear fruit, and become a stately cedar. And birds of every kind will nest under it; they will nest in the shade of its branches.
24. "And all the trees of the field will know that I am the LORD; I bring down the high tree, exalt the low tree, dry up the green tree, and make the dry tree flourish. I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will perform [it.]"
[히브리어]제17장
1. ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃
2. בן אדם חוד חידה ומשל משל אל בית ישראל׃
3. ואמרת כה אמר אדני יהוה הנשר הגדול גדול הכנפים ארך האבר מלא הנוצה אשר לו הרקמה בא אל הלבנון ויקח את צמרת הארז׃
4. את ראש יניקותיו קטף ויביאהו אל ארץ כנען בעיר רכלים שמו׃
5. ויקח מזרע הארץ ויתנהו בשדה זרע קח על מים רבים צפצפה שמו׃
6. ויצמח ויהי לגפן סרחת שפלת קומה לפנות דליותיו אליו ושרשיו תחתיו יהיו ותהי לגפן ותעש בדים ותשלח פארות׃
7. ויהי נשר אחד גדול גדול כנפים ורב נוצה והנה הגפן הזאת כפנה שרשיה עליו ודליותיו שלחה לו להשקות אותה מערגות מטעה׃
8. אל שדה טוב אל מים רבים היא שתולה לעשות ענף ולשאת פרי להיות לגפן אדרת׃
9. אמר כה אמר אדני יהוה תצלח הלוא את שרשיה ינתק ואת פריה יקוסס ויבש כל טרפי צמחה תיבש ולא בזרע גדולה ובעם רב למשאות אותה משרשיה׃
10. והנה שתולה התצלח הלוא כגעת בה רוח הקדים תיבש יבש על ערגת צמחה תיבש׃
11. ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃
12. אמר נא לבית המרי הלא ידעתם מה אלה אמר הנה בא מלך בבל ירושלם ויקח את מלכה ואת שריה ויבא אותם אליו בבלה׃
13. ויקח מזרע המלוכה ויכרת אתו ברית ויבא אתו באלה ואת אילי הארץ לקח׃
14. להיות ממלכה שפלה לבלתי התנשא לשמר את בריתו לעמדה׃
15. וימרד בו לשלח מלאכיו מצרים לתת לו סוסים ועם רב היצלח הימלט העשה אלה והפר ברית ונמלט׃
16. חי אני נאם אדני יהוה אם לא במקום המלך הממליך אתו אשר בזה את אלתו ואשר הפר את בריתו אתו בתוך בבל ימות׃
17. ולא בחיל גדול ובקהל רב יעשה אותו פרעה במלחמה בשפך סללה ובבנות דיק להכרית נפשות רבות׃
18. ובזה אלה להפר ברית והנה נתן ידו וכל אלה עשה לא ימלט׃
19. לכן כה אמר אדני יהוה חי אני אם לא אלתי אשר בזה ובריתי אשר הפיר ונתתיו בראשו׃
20. ופרשתי עליו רשתי ונתפש במצודתי והביאותיהו בבלה ונשפטתי אתו שם מעלו אשר מעל בי׃
21. ואת כל מברחו בכל אגפיו בחרב יפלו והנשארים לכל רוח יפרשו וידעתם כי אני יהוה דברתי׃
22. כה אמר אדני יהוה ולקחתי אני מצמרת הארז הרמה ונתתי מראש ינקותיו רך אקטף ושתלתי אני על הר גבה ותלול׃
23. בהר מרום ישראל אשתלנו ונשא ענף ועשה פרי והיה לארז אדיר ושכנו תחתיו כל צפור כל כנף בצל דליותיו תשכנה׃
24. וידעו כל עצי השדה כי אני יהוה השפלתי עץ גבה הגבהתי עץ שפל הובשתי עץ לח והפרחתי עץ יבש אני יהוה דברתי ועשיתי׃
