에스더4장 쉬운성경 / NIV 1 이 모든 일을 알게 된 모르드개는 옷을 찢고 거친 베옷을 입은 다음, 재를 뒤집어쓴 채 성 안으로 들어가 큰 소리로 슬피 울었습니다. 1 When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city, wailing loudly and bitterly. 2 그러나 거친 베옷을 입은 채 왕궁 문 안으로 들어갈 수가 없기 때문에 모르드개는 왕궁 문 앞에서 멈춰 섰습니다. 2 But he went only as far as the king's gate, because no one clothed in sackcloth was allowed to enter it. 3 왕의 명령이 각 지방에 이르자, 유다인들은 크게 슬퍼하고 금식하며 통곡했습니다. 그들 대부분은 거친 베옷을 입고 재 위에 누웠습니다. 3 In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes. 4 에스더의 여종들과 내시들이 에스더에게 가서 모르드개에게 일어난 일을 일러 주자, 그녀는 깊은 근심에 빠졌습니다. 에스더는 모르드개에게 옷을 보내어 거친 베옷을 벗고 다른 옷으로 갈아입기를 권했으나 모르드개는 에스더가 보낸 옷을 입지 않았습니다. 4 When Esther's maids and eunuchs came and told her about Mordecai, she was in great distress. She sent clothes for him to put on instead of his sackcloth, but he would not accept them. 5 에스더는 왕이 자기를 돌보라고 보낸 내시 가운데 한 사람인 하닥을 불러, 모르드개에게 무슨 일이 어떻게 일어났는지 알아보게 했습니다. 5 Then Esther summoned Hathach, one of the king's eunuchs assigned to attend her, and ordered him to find out what was troubling Mordecai and why. 6 하닥은 왕궁 문 앞, 도성 광장에 있는 모르드개에게 갔습니다. 6 So Hathach went out to Mordecai in the open square of the city in front of the king's gate. 7 모르드개는 자기에게 일어난 일을 빠짐없이 하닥에게 일러 주었습니다. 그리고 하만이 유다인을 죽이기 위해, 왕의 금고에 들여 놓겠다고 약속한 돈이 얼마인지도 알려 주었습니다. 7 Mordecai told him everything that had happened to him, including the exact amount of money Haman had promised to pay into the royal treasury for the destruction of the Jews. 8 모르드개는 수산 성에 내려진 왕의 명령, 곧 유다인을 다 죽이라는 내용이 적힌 조서의 사본을 하닥에게 주었습니다. 모르드개는 하닥이 그것을 에스더에게 보이고, 그 내용을 설명해 줄 것을 요청했습니다. 그리고 에스더가 왕 앞에 직접 나아가, 자기 백성을 위해 왕에게 간절히 빌 것을 하닥에게 부탁했습니다. 8 He also gave him a copy of the text of the edict for their annihilation, which had been published in Susa, to show to Esther and explain it to her, and he told him to urge her to go into the king's presence to beg for mercy and plead with him for her people. 9 하닥은 돌아가서 에스더에게 모르드개가 한 말을 그대로 전했습니다. 9 Hathach went back and reported to Esther what Mordecai had said. 10 그러자 에스더는 모르드개에게 이렇게 전하라고 말했습니다. 10 Then she instructed him to say to Mordecai, 11 "남자든지 여자든지 왕이 부르시지 않으면 안뜰로 들어갈 수 없습니다. 이를 어기는 사람은 죽게 되어 있습니다. 이것은 왕의 신하들과 왕이 다스리는 각 지방의 백성들이 다 아는 사실입니다. 다만 왕이 금홀을 내밀 때만 그 사람은 살 수 있습니다. 그런데 왕이 나를 부르지 않으신 지 벌써 삼십 일이나 되었습니다." 11 "All the king's officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that he be put to death. The only exception to this is for the king to extend the gold scepter to him and spare his life. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king." 12 에스더의 말이 모르드개에게 전해졌습니다. 12 When Esther's words were reported to Mordecai, 13 그러자 모르드개가 다시 사람을 시켜 에스더에게 다음과 같은 말을 전했습니다. "지금 왕비께서 왕궁에 살고 계신다고 하여, 다른 유다인이 다 당할 일을 왕비께서만 피하실 수 있다고 생각하지 마십시오. 13 he sent back this answer: "Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 지금 왕비가 잠잠히 있다 해도 다른 사람의 도움으로 유다인은 해방과 구원을 얻을 것입니다. 그러나 왕비와 왕비의 집안은 멸망을 당할 것입니다. 왕비가 지금 왕비의 자리에 오른 것도, 바로 이런 때를 위한 것인지 누가 압니까?" 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" 15 그러자 에스더가 다시 그들을 시켜 모르드개에게 전했습니다. 15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 "가서 수산 성에 있는 유다인들을 다 모으고 나를 위해 금식하게 하십시오. 밤낮으로 삼 일 동안 먹지 말고, 마시지도 말게 하십시오. 나와 내 여종들도 금식하겠습니다. 그런 뒤에 법을 어기고서라도 왕에게 나아가겠습니다. 그러다가 죽게 되면 죽겠습니다." 16 'Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law.
