Proverbs 13 Christian Standard Bible 13 A wise son responds to his father’s discipline, but a mocker doesn’t listen to rebuke. 2 From the fruit of his mouth, a person will enjoy good things, but treacherous people have an appetite for violence. 3 The one who guards his mouth protects his life; the one who opens his lips invites his own ruin. 4 The slacker craves, yet has nothing, but the diligent is fully satisfied. 5 The righteous hate lying, but the wicked bring disgust and shame. 6 Righteousness guards people of integrity,[a] but wickedness undermines the sinner. 7 One person pretends to be rich but has nothing; another pretends to be poor but has abundant wealth. 8 Riches are a ransom for a person’s life, but a poor person hears no threat. 9 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is put out. 10 Arrogance leads to nothing but strife, but wisdom is gained by those who take advice. 11 Wealth obtained by fraud will dwindle, but whoever earns it through labor[b] will multiply it. 12 Hope delayed makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life. 13 The one who has contempt for instruction will pay the penalty, but the one who respects a command will be rewarded. 14 A wise person’s instruction is a fountain of life, turning people away from the snares of death. 15 Good sense wins favor, but the way of the treacherous never changes.[c] 16 Every sensible person acts knowledgeably, but a fool displays his stupidity. 17 A wicked envoy falls into trouble, but a trustworthy courier brings healing. 18 Poverty and disgrace come to those who ignore discipline, but the one who accepts correction will be honored. 19 Desire fulfilled is sweet to the taste, but to turn from evil is detestable to fools. 20 The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm. 21 Disaster pursues sinners, but good rewards the righteous. 22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his[d] grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. 23 The uncultivated field of the poor yields abundant food, but without justice, it is swept away. 24 The one who will not use the rod hates his son, but the one who loves him disciplines him diligently. 25 A righteous person eats until he is satisfied, but the stomach of the wicked is empty. Footnotes 13:6 Lit guards integrity of way 13:11 Lit whoever gathers upon his hand 13:15 LXX, Syr, Tg read treacherous will perish 13:22 Or inheritance: his [잠언 13장] 새번역 1. 지혜로운 아들딸들은 아버지의 가르침을 듣지만, 거만한 사람은 꾸지람을 듣지 않는다. 2. 선한 사람은 열매 맺는 말을 하여 좋은 것을 넉넉하게 얻지만, 반역자는 폭행을 당할 뿐이다. 3. 말을 조심하는 사람은 자신의 생명을 보존하지만, 입을 함부로 여는 사람은 자신을 파멸시킨다. 4. 게으른 사람은 아무리 바라는 것이 있어도 얻지 못하지만, 부지런한 사람의 마음은 바라는 것을 넉넉하게 얻는다. 5. 의인은 거짓말하기를 싫어하지만, 악인은 염치도 없이 수치스러운 일을 한다. 6. 흠 없이 사는 사람의 의는 그의 길을 지켜 주지만, 죄인의 악은 그를 망하게 한다. 7. 부자인 체하나 아무것도 없는 사람이 있는가 하면, 가난한 체하나 많은 재물을 가진 사람이 있다. 8. 부유한 사람은 재물로 자기 목숨을 속하기도 하지만, 가난한 사람은 협박을 받을 일이 없다. 9. 의인의 빛은 밝게 빛나지만, 악인의 등불은 꺼져 버린다. 10. 교만에서는 다툼만 일어날 뿐이다. 지혜 있는 사람은 충고를 받아들인다. 11. 쉽게 얻은 재산은 줄어드나, 손수 모은 재산은 늘어난다. 12. 소망이 이루어지지 않으면 마음이 병들지만, 소원이 이루어지면 생명나무를 얻는다. 13. 말씀을 멸시하는 사람은 스스로 망하지만, 계명을 두려워하는 사람은 상을 받는다. 14. 지혜 있는 사람의 가르침은 생명의 샘이니, 죽음의 그물에서 벗어나게 한다. 15. 선한 지혜는 은혜를 베푸나, 배신자의 길은 스스로 멸망하는 길이다. 16. 영리한 사람은 잘 알고 행동하지만, 미련한 사람은 어리석음만을 드러낸다. 17. 못된 전령은 사람을 재앙에 빠지게 하지만, 충직한 사신은 재앙을 물리치는 일을 한다. 18. 훈계를 저버리면 가난과 수치가 닥치지만, 꾸지람을 받아들이면 존경을 받는다. 19. 소원이 이루어지면 마음이 즐겁지만, 미련한 사람은 악에서 떠나기를 싫어한다. 20. 지혜로운 사람과 함께 다니면 지혜를 얻지만, 미련한 사람과 사귀면 해를 입는다. 21. 죄인에게는 재앙이 따르지만, 의인에게는 좋은 보상이 따른다. 22. 선한 사람의 유산은 자손 대대로 이어지지만, 죄인의 재산은 의인에게 주려고 쌓은 것이다. 23. 가난한 사람이 경작한 밭에서는 많은 소출이 날 수도 있으나, 불의가 판을 치면 그에게 돌아갈 몫이 없다. 24. 매를 아끼는 것은 자식을 사랑하지 않는 것이다. 자식을 사랑하는 사람은 훈계를 게을리하지 않는다. 25. 의인은 배불리 먹지만, 악인은 배를 주린다.
