12 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but one who hates correction is stupid.

2 One who is good obtains favor from the Lord,
but he condemns a person who schemes.

3 No one can be made secure by wickedness,
but the root of the righteous is immovable.

4 A wife of noble character[a] is her husband’s crown,
but a wife who causes shame
is like rottenness in his bones.

5 The thoughts of the righteous are just,
but guidance from the wicked is deceitful.

6 The words of the wicked are a deadly ambush,
but the speech of the upright rescues them.

7 The wicked are overthrown and perish,
but the house of the righteous will stand.

8 A man is praised for his insight,
but a twisted mind is despised.

9 Better to be disregarded, yet have a servant,
than to act important but have no food.

10 The righteous cares about his animal’s health,
but even the merciful acts of the wicked are cruel.

11 The one who works his land will have plenty of food,
but whoever chases fantasies lacks sense.

12 The wicked desire what evil people have caught,[b]
but the root of the righteous is productive.

13 By rebellious speech an evil person is trapped,
but a righteous person escapes from trouble.

14 A person will be satisfied with good
by the fruit of his mouth,
and the work of a person’s hands will reward him.

15 A fool’s way is right in his own eyes,
but whoever listens to counsel is wise.

16 A fool’s displeasure is known at once,
but whoever ignores an insult is sensible.

17 Whoever speaks the truth declares what is right,
but a false witness speaks deceit.

18 There is one who speaks rashly,
like a piercing sword;
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

19 Truthful lips endure forever,
but a lying tongue, only a moment.

20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil,
but those who promote peace have joy.

21 No disaster overcomes the righteous,
but the wicked are full of misery.

22 Lying lips are detestable to the Lord,
but faithful people are his delight.

23 A shrewd person conceals knowledge,
but a foolish heart publicizes stupidity.

24 The diligent hand will rule,
but laziness will lead to forced labor.

25 Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down,
but a good word cheers it up.

26 A righteous person is careful in dealing with his neighbor,[c]
but the ways of the wicked lead them astray.

27 A lazy hunter doesn’t roast his game,
but to a diligent person, his wealth is precious.

28 There is life in the path of righteousness,
and in its path there is no death.[d]

1. 훈계받기를 좋아하는 사람은 지식을 사랑하지만, 책망받기를 싫어하는 사람은 짐승같이 우둔하다.
2. 선한 사람은 주님으로부터 은총을 받지만, 악을 꾀하는 사람은 정죄를 받는다.
3. 사람은 악행으로 터를 굳게 세울 수 없지만, 의인의 뿌리는 흔들리지 않는다.
4. 어진 아내는 남편의 면류관이지만, 욕을 끼치는 아내는 남편의 뼛속을 썩게 한다.
5. 의인의 생각은 곧지만, 악인의 궁리는 속임수뿐이다.
6. 악인이 하는 말은 피 흘릴 음모뿐이지만, 정직한 사람의 말은 사람을 구하여 낸다.
7. 악인은 쓰러져서 사라지지만, 의인의 집은 든든히 서 있다.
8. 사람은 그 지혜대로 칭찬을 받지만 마음이 비뚤어진 사람은 멸시를 받는다.
9. 업신여김을 받더라도 종을 부리는 사람은, 스스로 높은 체하면서 먹을 빵이 없는 사람보다 낫다.
10. 의인은 집짐승의 생명도 돌보아 주지만, 악인은 자비를 베푼다고 하여도 잔인하다.
11. 밭을 가는 사람은 먹을 것이 넉넉하지만, 헛된 것을 꿈꾸는 사람은 지각이 없다.
12. 악인은 불의한 이익을 탐하지만, 의인은 그 뿌리로 말미암아 열매를 맺는다.
13. 악인은 입술을 잘못 놀려 덫에 걸리지만, 의인은 재난에서 벗어난다.
14. 사람은 열매 맺는 말을 하여 좋은 것을 넉넉하게 얻으며, 자기가 손수 일한 만큼 되돌려 받는다.
15. 어리석은 사람은 자신의 행실만이 옳다고 여기지만, 지혜로운 사람은 충고에 귀를 기울인다.
16. 미련한 사람은 쉽게 화를 내지만, 슬기로운 사람은 모욕을 참는다.
17. 진실을 말하는 사람은 정직한 증거를 보이지만, 거짓 증인은 속임수만 쓴다.
18. 함부로 말하는 사람의 말은 비수 같아도, 지혜로운 사람의 말은 아픈 곳을 낫게 하는 약이다.
19. 진실한 말은 영원히 남지만, 거짓말은 한순간만 통할 뿐이다.
20. 악을 꾀하는 사람의 마음에는 속임수가 들어 있지만, 평화를 꾀하는 사람에게는 기쁨이 있다.
21. 의인은 아무런 해도 입지 않지만, 악인은 재난에 파묻혀 산다.
22. 주님은 거짓말을 하는 입술은 미워하시지만, 진실하게 사는 사람은 기뻐하신다.
23. 슬기로운 사람은 지식을 감추어 두어도, 미련한 사람의 마음은 어리석음을 전파한다.
24. 부지런한 사람의 손은 남을 다스리지만, 게으른 사람은 남의 부림을 받는다.
25. 마음에 근심이 있으면 번민이 일지만, 좋은 말 한 마디로도 사람을 기쁘게 할 수 있다.
26. 의인은 이웃에게 바른길을 보여 주지만, 악인은 이웃을 나쁜 길로 빠져 들게 한다.
27. 게으른 사람은 사냥한 것도 불에 구우려 하지 않지만, 부지런한 사람은 귀한 재물을 얻는다.
28. 의로운 사람의 길에는 생명이 있지만, 미련한 사람의 길은 죽음으로 이끈다.
