1 예수께서 열두 제자에게 지시하기를 마치고, 거기에서 떠나셔서, 유대 사람들의 여러 고을에서 가르치며 복음을 전하셨다. 1 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee. 2 그런데 요한은, 그리스도께서 하신 일들을 감옥에서 전해 듣고, 자기의 제자들을 예수께 보내어, 2 When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples 3 물어 보게 하였다. "오실 그분이 당신이십니까? 그렇지 않으면, 우리가 다른 분을 기다려야 합니까?" 3 to ask him, 'Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?' 4 예수께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. "가서, 너희가 듣고 본 것을 요한에게 알려라. 4 Jesus replied, 'Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 눈 먼 사람이 보고, 다리 저는 사람이 걸으며, 나병 환자가 깨끗하게 되며, 듣지 못하는 사람이 들으며, 죽은 사람이 살아나며, 가난한 사람이 복음을 듣는다. 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. 6 나에게 걸려 넘어지지 않는 사람은 복이 있다." 6 Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me.' 7 이들이 떠나갈 때에, 예수께서 무리에게 요한을 두고 말씀하셨다. "너희는 무엇을 보러 광야에 나갔더냐? 바람에 흔들리는 갈대냐? 7 As John's disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 아니면, 무엇을 보러 나갔더냐? 화려한 옷을 입은 사람이냐? 화려한 옷을 입은 사람은 왕궁에 있다. 8 not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings' palaces. 9 아니면, 무엇을 보러 나갔더냐? 예언자를 보려고 나갔더냐? 그렇다. 내가 너희에게 말한다. 그렇다. 그는 예언자보다 더 훌륭한 사람이다. 이 사람을 두고 성경에 기록하기를, 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 '보아라, 내가 내 심부름꾼을 너보다 앞서 보낸다. 그가 네 앞에서 네 길을 닦을 것이다' 하였다. 10 This is the one about whom it is written: " 'I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' 11 내가 진정으로 너희에게 말한다. 여자가 낳은 사람 가운데서 세례자 요한보다 더 큰 인물은 없었다. 그런데 하늘 나라에서는 아무리 작은 이라도 요한보다 더 크다. 11 I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 세례자 요한 때로부터 지금까지, 하늘 나라는 힘을 떨치고 있다. 그리고 힘을 쓰는 사람들이 그것을 차지한다. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. 13 모든 예언자와 율법서는, 요한에 이르기까지, 하늘 나라가 올 것을 예언하였다. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14 너희가 그 예언을 기꺼이 받아들이려고 하면, 요한, 바로 그 사람이 오기로 되어 있는 엘리야이다. 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. 15 들을 귀가 있는 사람은 들어라." 15 He who has ears, let him hear. 16 "이 세대를 무엇에 비길까? 마치 아이들이 장터에 앉아서, 다른 아이들에게 이렇게 말하는 것과 같다. 16 'To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others: 17 '우리가 너희에게 피리를 불어도 너희는 춤을 추지 않았고, 우리가 곡을 해도, 너희는 울지 않았다.' 17 " 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge and you did not mourn.' 18 요한이 와서, 먹지도 않고 마시지도 않았다. 그러니까 사람들이 말하기를, '그는 귀신이 들렸다' 하고, 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' 19 인자는 와서, 먹기도 하고 마시기도 하니, 그들이 말하기를 '보아라, 저 사람은 마구 먹어대는 자요, 포도주를 마시는 자요, 세리와 죄인의 친구다' 한다. 그러나 지혜는 그 한 일로 옳다는 것이 입증되었다." 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." ' But wisdom is proved right by her actions." 20 그 때에 예수께서는, 자기가 기적을 많이 행한 마을들이 회개하지 않으므로, 꾸짖기 시작하셨다. 20 Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 "고라신아, 너에게 화가 있다. 벳새다야, 너에게 화가 있다. 너희 마을들에서 행한 기적들을 두로와 시돈에서 행했더라면, 그들은 벌써 굵은 베 옷을 입고, 재를 쓰고서, 회개하였을 것이다. 21 'Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 나는 너희에게 말한다. 심판 날에 두로와 시돈이 너희보다 견디기 쉬울 것이다. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 화가 있다. 너 가버나움아, 네가 하늘에까지 치솟을 셈이냐? 지옥에까지 떨어질 것이다. 너 가버나움에서 행한 기적들을 소돔에서 행했더라면, 그는 오늘까지 남아 있을 것이다. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 나는 너희에게 말한다. 심판 날에 소돔 땅이 너보다 견디기 쉬울 것이다." 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.' 25 그 때에 예수께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "하늘과 땅의 주님이신 아버지, 이 일을 지혜 있고 똑똑한 사람들에게는 감추시고, 어린아이들에게는 드러내어 주셨으니, 감사합니다. 25 At that time Jesus said, 'I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 그렇습니다. 아버지, 이것이 아버지의 은혜로운 뜻입니다. 26 Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. 27 내 아버지께서 모든 것을 내게 맡겨주셨습니다. 아버지 밖에는 아들을 아는 이가 없으며, 아들과 또 아들이 계시하여 주려고 하는 사람 밖에는 아버지를 아는 이가 없습니다." 27 'All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 "수고하며 무거운 짐을 진 사람은 모두 내게로 오너라. 내가 너희를 쉬게 하겠다. 28 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니, 내 멍에를 메고 나한테 배워라. 그리하면 너희는 마음에 쉼을 얻을 것이다. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 내 멍에는 편하고, 내 짐은 가볍다." 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.'
