1그러면 내가 묻습니다. 하나님께서 자기 백성을 버리신 것은 아닙니까? 그럴 수 없습니다. 나도 이스라엘 사람이요, 아브라함의 후손이요, 베냐민 지파에 속한 사람입니다.		1I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.
2하나님께서는 미리 아신 자기 백성을 버리지 않으셨습니다. 여러분은 성경이 엘리야를 두고 하신 말씀을 알지 못합니까? 그가 이스라엘을 고발하여, 하나님께 이렇게 호소하였습니다.		2God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don't you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah-how he appealed to God against Israel:
3"주님, 그들은 주님의 예언자들을 죽이고, 주님의 제단들을 헐어 버렸습니다. 남은 것은 나 혼자밖에 없는데, 그들은 내 목숨마저 찾고 있습니다."		3'Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me'?
4그런데 하나님께서는 그에게 어떻게 대답하셨습니까? "내가, 바알에게 무릎을 꿇지 않은 사람 칠천 명을 내 앞에 남겨 두었다" 하셨습니다.		4And what was God's answer to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal."
5이와 같이, 지금 이 시기에도 은혜로 택하심을 입은 사람들이 남아 있습니다.		5So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.
6은혜로 된 것이면, 행위에 근거한 것이 아닙니다. 그렇지 않으면, 그 은혜는 이미 은혜가 아닙니다.		6And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

9다윗도 다음과 같이 말하였습니다. "그들의 밥상이 그들에게 올무가 되고 덫이 되게 하여 주십시오. 그들이 걸려 넘어지고, 보복을 받게 하여 주십시오.		9And David says: 'May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them.
10그들의 눈이 어두워져서 보지 못하게 되도록 하여 주십시오. 그들의 등이 언제나 굽어 있게 하여 주십시오."		10May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.'
11그러면 내가 묻습니다. 이스라엘이 걸려 넘어져서 완전히 쓰러져 망하게끔 되었습니까? 그럴 수 없습니다. 그들의 허물 때문에 구원이 이방 사람에게 이르렀는데, 이것은 이스라엘에게 질투하는 마음이 일어나게 하려는 것입니다.		11Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.
12이스라엘의 허물이 세상의 부요함이 되고, 이스라엘의 실패가 이방 사람의 부요함이 되었다면, 이스라엘 전체가 바로 설 때에는, 그 복이 얼마나 더 엄청나겠습니까?		12But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring!
13이제 나는 이방 사람인 여러분에게 말합니다. 내가 이방 사람에게 보내심을 받은 사도이니만큼, 나는 내 직분을 영광스럽게 생각합니다.		13I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry
14나는 아무쪼록, 내 동족에게 질투심을 일으켜서, 그 가운데서 몇 사람만이라도 구원하고 싶습니다.		14in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them.
15하나님께서 그들을 버리심이 세상과의 화해를 이루는 것이라면, 그들을 받아들이심은 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살아나는 삶을 주심이 아니고 무엇이겠습니까?		15For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
16맏물로 바치는 빵 반죽 덩이가 거룩하면 남은 온 덩이도 그러하고, 뿌리가 거룩하면 가지도 그러합니다.		16If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.
17그런데 참올리브 나무 가지들 가운데서 얼마를 잘라 내시고서, 그 자리에다 돌올리브 나무인 그대를 접붙여 주셨기 때문에, 그대가 참올리브 나무의 뿌리에서 올라오는 양분을 함께 받게 된 것이면,		17If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root,
18그대는 본래의 가지들을 향하여 우쭐대지 말아야 합니다. 비록 그대가 우쭐댈지라도, 그대가 뿌리를 지탱하는 것이 아니라, 뿌리가 그대를 지탱한다는 것을 명심해야 합니다.		18do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.
19그러므로 "본래의 가지가 잘려 나간 것은, 그 자리에 내가 접붙임을 받게 하시려는 것이었다" 하고 그대는 말해야 할 것입니다.		19You will say then, 'Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.'
20옳습니다. 그 가지들이 잘린 것은 믿지 않은 탓이고, 그대가 그 자리에 붙어 있는 것은 믿었기 때문입니다. 그러니 교만한 마음을 품지 말고, 도리어 두려워하십시오.		20Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid.
21하나님께서 본래의 가지들을 아끼지 않으셨으니, 접붙은 가지도 아끼지 않으실 것입니다.		21For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
22그러므로 하나님의 인자하심과 준엄하심을 생각해 보십시오. 하나님은 넘어진 사람들에게는 준엄하십니다. 그러나 그대가 하나님의 인자하심에 머물러 있으면, 하나님이 그대에게 인자하게 대하실 것입니다. 그렇지 않으면, 그대도 잘릴 것입니다.		22Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.
23그러나 믿지 않았던 탓으로 잘려나갔던 가지들이 믿게 되면, 그 가지들도 접붙임을 받게 될 것입니다. 하나님께서는 그들을 다시 접붙이실 수 있습니다.		23And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
24그대가 본래의 돌올리브 나무에서 잘려서, 그 본성을 거슬러 참올리브 나무에 접붙임을 받았다면, 본래 붙어 있던 이 가지들이 제 나무에 다시 접붙임을 받는 것이야 얼마나 더 쉬운 일이겠습니까?		24After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!
25형제자매 여러분, 나는 여러분이 이 신비한 비밀을 알기를 바랍니다. 그것은 여러분이 스스로 현명하다고 생각하는 일이 없게 하려는 것입니다. 그 비밀은 이러합니다. 이방 사람의 수가 다 찰 때까지 이스라엘 사람들 가운데서 일부가 완고해진 대로 있으리라는 것과,		25I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.

28복음의 관점에서 판단하면, 이스라엘 사람들은 여러분이 잘 되라고 하나님의 원수가 되었지만, 택하심을 받았다는 관점에서 판단하면, 그들은 조상 덕분에 하나님의 사랑을 받는 사람들입니다.		28As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs,
29하나님께서 주시는 고마운 선물과 부르심은 철회되지 않습니다.		29for God's gifts and his call are irrevocable.
30전에 하나님께 순종하지 않던 여러분이, 이제 이스라엘 사람의 불순종 때문에 하나님의 자비를 입게 되었습니다.		30Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience,
31이와 같이, 지금은 순종하지 않고 있는 이스라엘 사람들도, 여러분이 받은 그 자비를 보고 회개하여, 마침내는 자비하심을 입게 될 것입니다.		31so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God's mercy to you.
32하나님께서 모든 사람을 순종하지 않는 상태에 가두신 것은 그들에게 자비를 베푸시려는 것입니다.		32For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.
33하나님의 부유하심은 어찌 그리 크십니까? 하나님의 지혜와 지식은 어찌 그리 깊고 깊으십니까? 그 어느 누가 하나님의 판단을 헤아려 알 수 있으며, 그 어느 누가 하나님의 길을 더듬어 찾아낼 수 있겠습니까?		33Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
34"누가 주님의 마음을 알았으며, 누가 주님의 조언자가 되었습니까?"		34"Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?"
35"누가 먼저 무엇을 드렸기에 주님의 답례를 바라겠습니까?"		35"Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?"
36만물이 그에게서 나고, 그로 말미암아 있고, 그를 위하여 있습니다. 그에게 영광이 세세에 있기를 빕니다. 아멘.		36For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
