Where does understanding dwell? 12 그러나 지혜는 어디에서 얻으며, 슬기가 있는 곳은 어디인가? 13 Man does not comprehend its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living. 13 지혜는 사람에게서 발견되는 것이 아니다. 사람은 어느 누구도 지혜의 참 가치를 알지 못한다. 14 The deep says, 'It is not in me'; the sea says, 'It is not with me.' 14 깊은 바다도 "나는 지혜를 감추어 놓지 않았다" 하고 말한다. 넓은 바다도 "나는 지혜를 감추어 놓지 않았다" 하고 말한다. 15 It cannot be bought with the finest gold, nor can its price be weighed in silver. 15 지혜는 금을 주고 살 수 없고, 은으로도 그 값을 치를 수 없다. 16 It cannot be bought with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx or sapphires. 16 지혜는 오빌의 금이나 값진 루비나 사파이어로도 그 값을 치를 수 없다. 17 Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it, nor can it be had for jewels of gold. 17 지혜는 금보다 값진 것, 금잔이나 값진 유리잔보다 더 값진 것이다. 18 Coral and jasper are not worthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies. 18 지혜의 값은 산호보다, 수정보다 비싸다. 지혜를 얻는 것은 진주를 가진 것보다 값지다. 19 The topaz of Cush cannot compare with it; it cannot be bought with pure gold. 19 에티오피아의 토파즈로도 지혜와 비교할 수 없고, 정금으로도 지혜의 값을 치를 수 없다. 20 'Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? 20 그렇다면 지혜는 어디에서 오며, 슬기가 있는 곳은 어디인가? 21 It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds of the air. 21 모든 생물의 눈에 숨겨져 있고, 공중의 새에게도 감추어져 있다. 22 Destruction and Death say, 'Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.' 22 멸망의 구덩이와 죽음도 지혜를 두고 이르기를 "지혜라는 것이 있다는 말은 다만 소문으로만 들었을 뿐이다" 하고 말한다. 23 God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, 23 그러나 하나님은, 지혜가 있는 곳에 이르는 길을 아신다. 그분만이 지혜가 있는 곳을 아신다. 24 for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. 24 오직 그분만이 땅 끝까지 살피실 수 있으며, 하늘 아래에 있는 모든 것을 보실 수 있다. 25 When he established the force of the wind and measured out the waters, 25 그분께서 저울로 바람의 강약을 달아 보시던 그 때에, 물의 분량을 달아 보시던 그 때에, 26 when he made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunderstorm, 26 비가 내리는 규칙을 세우시던 그 때에, 천둥 번개가 치는 길을 정하시던 그 때에, 27 then he looked at wisdom and appraised it; he confirmed it and tested it. 27 바로 그 때에 그분께서, 지혜를 보시고, 지혜를 칭찬하시고, 지혜를 튼튼하게 세우시고, 지혜를 시험해 보셨다. 28 And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord-that is wisdom,and to shun evil is understanding.' " 28 그런 다음에, 하나님은 사람에게 말씀하셨다. "주님을 경외하는 것이 지혜요, 악을 멀리하는 것이 슬기다."
