잘 다스리는 장로들은 배나 존경할 자로 알되 말씀과 가르침에 수고하는 이들에게는 더욱 그리할 것이니라 (디모데전서 5:17​)

The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. (1 Timothy 5:17​)

벨직고백서 제 30 조: 교회의 운영 Concerning the Government of, and Offices in the Church.

참된 교회는 우리 구주께서 그의 말씀에 가르치신 대로 영적인 질서에 따라서 운영되어야 한다고 우리는 믿습니다. 교회에는 하나님의 말씀을 설교하고 성례를 집행하는목사를 두어야 합니다. 교회에는 또한 목사와 함께 교회의 제직회를 구성하는 장로와 집사를 두어야 합니다. 이러한 구성의 방편을 사용함으로 참된 신앙이 보존되고, 참된 신앙고백이 전파되며, 악한 사람들이 억제되고 영적으로 회복되며, 또한 모든 가난하고 고난받는 사람들이 위로를 받고 그들의 필요를 따라 채워지게 됩니다. 이러한 구성의 방편을 사용함으로 바울이 디모데에게 당부한 말씀에 따라서 충실한 제직들이 세워질 때에 교회의 모든 일들이 합당하게 이루어집니다.

Article 30: The Government of the Church

We believe that this true church

ought to be governed according to the spiritual order

that our Lord has taught us in his Word.

There should be ministers or pastors

to preach the Word of God

and administer the sacraments.

There should also be elders and deacons,

along with the pastors,

to make up the council of the church.

By this means

true religion is preserved;

true doctrine is able to take its course;

and evil people are corrected spiritually and held in check,

so that also the poor

and all the afflicted

may be helped and comforted

according to their need.

By this means

everything will be done well

and in good order

in the church,

when such persons are elected

who are faithful

and are chosen according to the rule

that Paul gave to Timothy.

주님의 몸된 교회를 위해,

특별히 직분자를 위해

마음을 쓰게 하소서!

교회에 대한 무관심은

예수님을 향한 무관심임을

고백합니다. 주께서 피흘려

사신 교회를 사랑하게 하소서.

방글라데시를 위해 기도합시다.

고난 중에 있는 교회를 붙드소서.

신앙의 자유를 허락하소서!

Article 30: Concerning the Government of, and Offices in the Church.

We believe, that this true Church must be governed by that spiritual policy which our Lord hath taught us in his Word; namely, that there must be ministers or pastors to preach the Word of God, and to administer the sacraments; also elders and deacons, who, together with the pastors, form the council of the Church: that by these means true religion may be preserved, and the true doctrine everywhere propagated, likewise transgressors punished and restrained by spiritual means: also that the poor and distressed may be relieved and comforted, according to their necessities. By these means everything will be carried on in the Church with good order and decency, when faithful men are chosen, according to the rule prescribed by St. Paul in his Epistle to Timothy.

우리는 이 참 교회가 우리 주님께서 당신의 말씀에서 가르치신 영적 질서에 따라 다스려져야 함을 믿습니다. 참 교회에는 하나님의 말씀을 설교하고 성례를 집행하는 사역자 혹은 목사들이 있어야 합니다. 또한 목사들과 함께 교회의 회의를 구성할 장로들과 집사들도 있어야 합니다. 이러한 방식으로 그들은 참 신앙을 다음과 같이 보존합니다. 즉 이들은 참된 교리가 전파되는지를 살피고, 악한 자들을 영적인 방식으로 권징하고 억제하며, 가난한 자와 고통 받는 모든 자들이 그들의 필요에 따라 도움을 받고 위로를 얻도록 살핍니다. 사도 바울이 디모데에게 준 규칙에 따라(딤전 3장) 신실한 자들을 선출하여 이러한 방식으로 모든 것을 적당하게 하고 질서대로 해야 할 것입니다.
