하나님의 말씀인 성경에는 구약과 신약의 모든 책이 다 포함되어 있다. 그 책은 다음과 같다. 이 모든 책은 하나님의 영감으로 기록된 것으로서 (딤후 3:16) 신앙과 생활의 규칙이 된다. 구약 (39권), 신약 27권

보통 외경으로 불리는 책들은 하나님의 영감에 의한 것이 아니기 때문에 (눅 24:27, 44; 롬 3:1) 정경으로 분류될 수 없으며 하나님의 교회에서 권위를 가질 수 없고 다른 방법에 의해서도 인정받을 수 없으며 일반적인 인간의 작품들 이상으로 간주하여서도 안된다.

성경의 권위는 사람이 반드시 믿어야만 하는 것인데, 그 권위는 어떠한 사람이나 교회의 증거에 의존하는 것이 아니라 진리 자체시며 성경의 저자이신 하나님께 전적으로 의존한다. (살전 2:13, 요일 5:9 비교, 딤후 3:16, 벧후 1:19-21) 성경은 하나님의 말씀이기 때문에 인간은 하나님의 말씀으로 받아들여야 할 의무가 있다. 

딤후3:16 모든 성경은 하나님의 감동으로 된 것으로 교훈과 책망과 바르게 함과 의로 교육하기에 유익하니 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

눅24:27 이에 모세와 모든 선지자의 글로 시작하여 모든 성경에 쓴 바 자기에 관한 것을 자세히 설명하시니라 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

눅24:44 또 이르시되 내가 너희와 함께 있을 때에 너희에게 말한 바 곧 모세의 율법과 선지자의 글과 시편에 나를 가리켜 기록된 모든 것이 이루어져야 하리라 한 말이 이것이라 하시고 He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

롬3:2 범사에 많으니 우선은 그들이 하나님의 말씀을 맡았음이니라 Much in every way! First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God.

벧후2:19-21 19. 그들에게 자유를 준다 하여도 자신들은 멸망의 종들이니 누구든지 진 자는 이긴 자의 종이 됨이라 20. 만일 그들이 우리 주 되신 구주 예수 그리스도를 앎으로 세상의 더러움을 피한 후에 다시 그 중에 얽매이고 지면 그 나중 형편이 처음보다 더 심하리니 21. 의의 도를 안 후에 받은 거룩한 명령을 저버리는 것보다 알지 못하는 것이 도리어 그들에게 나으니라 19. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity--for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 20. If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

살후2:13 주께서 사랑하시는 형제들아 우리가 항상 너희에 관하여 마땅히 하나님께 감사할 것은 하나님이 처음부터 너희를 택하사 성령의 거룩하게 하심과 진리를 믿음으로 구원을 받게 하심이니 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

요한일서5:9 만일 우리가 사람들의 증언을 받을진대 하나님의 증거는 더욱 크도다 하나님의 증거는 이것이니 그의 아들에 대하여 증언하신 것이니라 We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.
