제 3항 이 영적이고 무한한 존재는 성부, 성자, 성령으로 삼위(three substances or three persons)이지만 (요일 5:7, 마 28:19, 고후 13:14) 능력과 영원성에 있어서 한 분(one substance or one essence)이시다. 각 위는 오나전한 신적 실체를 가지고 있으나 나누어지는 것은 아니다. (요 14:11, 고전 8:6, 출 3:14) 성부는 출생되셨거나 (generation), 발출 (procession)되지 않으셨다. 성자는 성부에게서 영원 출생(eternal generation) 되셨고 (요 14:11, 고전 8:6, 출 3:14) 성령은 성부와 성자에게서 발출 (eternal procession, double procession)되셨다. (갈 4:6) 삼위는 완전히 무한하시고 시작이 없으시며 오직 한 하나님이시다. 삼위는 본질상 분할될 수 없으나 (not divided) 다른 위격과 비교해서 여러 가지 독특한 고유성을 가지고 있는 인격적인 관계로 인하여 상호 구별된다. (but distinguished) 삼위 일체 교리에 대한 믿음은 하나님과의 교제 그분에 대한 안정된 의존의 기초가 된다.
