4항 이 원래적 부패(원죄)로 말미암아 우리는 모든 선에 대하여 전적으로 싫증을 느끼며(롬 8:7, 골 1:21) 무능해졌다. 그리고 선을 배격하는 존재가 되었으며, 악으로 완전히 기울어지게 되어 모든 자범죄가 나오게 되었다. (약 1:14-15, 마 15:19)

5항 이 원죄는 이 세상의 삶을 사는 동안에 중생한 사람들에게도 남아있다. (롬 7:18, 전 7:20, 요일 1:8) 그것은 그리스도를 통하여 용서받고 억제되지만, 본성적인 부패뿐만이 아니라 그로부터 나오는 자연적인 동기들은 틀림없이 당연히 죄가 되는 것이다. (롬 7:24-25, 갈 5:17)
