1항. 태초에 성부, 성자 (요 1:1,5; 히 1:2, 욥 26:13), 성령 하나님은 그의 영원한 권능과 지혜와 선하심의 영광을 나타내시기 위해 (롬 1:20) 세상과 그 안에 있는 만물 즉 보이는 것들과 (골 1:16, 창 2:1-2) 보이지 않는 것들을 6일 동안에 만드시기를 기뻐하셨다. 그 지으신 모든 것이 다 선하셨다. 

2항. 하나님은 모든 다른 피조물들을 만드신 후에 사람을 이성적이고 불멸하는 영혼을 가진 (창 2:7) 남자와 여자로 창조하셨다. (창 1:27) 하나님은 그들에게 생명을 주셨고, 하나님의 형상을 따라 (전 7:29, 창 1:27) 지식과 의와 참된 거룩함을 가진 사람으로 창조하셨다. 그들의 마음 속에는 하나님의 법이 기록되어 있고 (롬 2:14-15) 또한 그것을 수행할 능력을 가지고 있었다. 그리고 아직 죄를 범할 가능성 아래 놓여져 있었고 변하기 쉬운 인간 의지의 자유에 맡겨져 있었다. 

3항. 그들의 마음 속에 쓰여진 법 이외에 그들은 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 실과를 따먹지 말라는 명령을 받았다. (창 2:17, 창 3:8-10) 그것을 지키고 있는 동안에는 하나님과 교제를 나눔으로써 복을 받았고 피조물을 다스릴 수 있는 통치권이 있었다. (창 1:26,28)
