16. 베냐민 기브아에 있는 사울의 파수꾼이 바라본즉 허다한 블레셋 사람들이 무너져 이리 저리 흩어지더라
17. 사울이 자기와 함께 한 백성에게 이르되 우리에게서 누가 나갔는지 점호하여 보라 하여 점호한즉 요나단과 그의 무기를 든 자가 없어졌더라
18. 사울이 아히야에게 이르되 하나님의 궤를 이리로 가져오라 하니 그 때에 하나님의 궤가 이스라엘 자손과 함께 있음이니라
19. 사울이 제사장에게 말할 때에 블레셋 사람들의 진영에 소동이 점점 더한지라 사울이 제사장에게 이르되 네 손을 거두라 하고
20. 사울과 그와 함께 한 모든 백성이 모여 전장에 가서 본즉 블레셋 사람들이 각각 칼로 자기의 동무들을 치므로 크게 혼란하였더라
21. 전에 블레셋 사람들과 함께 하던 히브리 사람이 사방에서 블레셋 사람들과 함께 진영에 들어왔더니 그들이 돌이켜 사울과 요나단과 함께 한 이스라엘 사람들과 합하였고
22. 에브라임 산지에 숨었던 이스라엘 모든 사람도 블레셋 사람들이 도망함을 듣고 싸우러 나와서 그들을 추격하였더라
23. 여호와께서 그 날에 이스라엘을 구원하시므로 전쟁이 벧아웬을 지나니라

16. Saul's lookouts at Gibeah in Benjamin saw the army melting away in all directions.
17. Then Saul said to the men who were with him, "Muster the forces and see who has left us." When they did, it was Jonathan and his armor-bearer who were not there.
18. Saul said to Ahijah, "Bring the ark of God." (At that time it was with the Israelites.)
19. While Saul was talking to the priest, the tumult in the Philistine camp increased more and more. So Saul said to the priest, "Withdraw your hand."
20. Then Saul and all his men assembled and went to the battle. They found the Philistines in total confusion, striking each other with their swords.
21. Those Hebrews who had previously been with the Philistines and had gone up with them to their camp went over to the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22. When all the Israelites who had hidden in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were on the run, they joined the battle in hot pursuit.
23. So the LORD rescued Israel that day, and the battle moved on beyond Beth Aven.

16. 베냐민 지역의 기브아에서 망을 보는 사울의 파수꾼들이 건너다 보니, 수많은 블레셋 군인들이 아우성을 치며 이리저리 몰려다니고 있었다.
17. 그러자 사울이 자기와 함께 있는 군인들에게 명령하였다. "우리 가운데서 누가 빠져 나갔는지 조사하여 밝혀 내어라!" 사람들이 조사하여 보니, 요나단과 그의 무기를 드는 병사가 없었다.
18. 그러자 사울은 아히야에게 하나님의 궤를 가지고 오라고 말하였다. 그 때에는 하나님의 궤가 이스라엘 자손과 함께 있었다.
19. 사울이 제사장에게 말을 하고 있는 동안에, 블레셋 진영에서 일어난 아우성 소리가 점점 더 크게 들려왔다. 그래서 사울은 제사장에게 궤를 가지고 오지 말라고 하였다.
20. 사울과 그를 따르는 온 백성이 함께 함성을 지르며 싸움터로 달려가 보니, 블레셋 군인들이 칼을 뽑아들고 저희끼리 서로 정신없이 쳐죽이고 있었다.
21. 블레셋 사람들 편을 들어 싸움터에까지 나왔던 히브리 사람들도, 이제는 돌이켜서 사울과 요나단이 지휘하는 이스라엘 편이 되었다.
22. 또 전에 에브라임 산간지방으로 들어가 숨었던 이스라엘 사람들도, 블레셋 사람들이 지고 달아난다는 소식을 듣고, 모두 뛰어나와 블레셋 군인들을 뒤쫓으며 싸웠다.
23. 그 날 주님께서 이렇게 이스라엘을 구원하셨다. 전쟁은 벳아웬 너머에까지 번졌다.

16. And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.
17. Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.
18. And Saul said unto Ahiah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.
19. And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the noise that was in the host of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.
20. And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.
21. Moreover the Hebrews that were with the Philistines before that time, which went up with them into the camp from the country round about, even they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.
22. Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.
23. So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Bethaven.

16. 기브아에 있던 사울의 관측병이 바라보니 수많은 블레셋군이 큰 혼란 가운데서 이리저리 흩어지고 있었다.
17. 그래서 사울은 부하들에게 인원을 점검하고 누가 없는지 확인하라고 명령하였다. 그들은 인원을 점검하고 요나단과 그의 호위병이 없어진 것을 알게 되었다.
18. 그때 사울은 아히야를 보고 '하나님의 궤를 이리 가져오시오!' 하였다. 이 당시에 하나님의 궤는 이스라엘 백성 가운데 있었다.
19. 그런데 사울이 제사장에게 말할 때에 블레셋군의 진지에서 요란한 소리가 점점 더 크게 들려왔다. 그래서 사울은 '여호와께 물어 볼 필요도 없소. 그만두시오.' 하고 제사장에게 말하였다.
20. 그리고서 사울과 그의 부하들이 즉시 전쟁터로 달려가 보니 블레셋군이 큰 혼란가운데서 자기들끼리 서로 치고 있었다.
21. 그들 가운데는 블레셋 사람의 편에 가담하였다가 출전한 히브리 사람들도 있었는데 이제 그들이 마음을 돌려 사울과 요나단에게 합세하였다.
22. 그리고 에브라임 산간 지대에 숨어 있던 이스라엘 사람들도 블레셋군이 도주하는 것을 보고 나와서 그들을 추격하였다.
23. 이렇게 해서 전투는 벧-아웬을 지나 계속되었으나 여호와께서 그 날 이스라엘을 구원하셨다.
