Day 1 Evening/John Baillie, A Diary of Private Prayer/Into your care, O Father, I now entrust my body and my soul.

 OThou who art from everlasting to everlasting, I would turn my thoughts to Thee as the hours of darkness and of sleep begin. O Sun of my soul, I rejoice to know that all night I shall be under the unsleeping eye of One who dwells in eternal light.

To thy care, O Father, I would now commend my body and my soul. All day Thou hast watched over me and Thy companionship has filled my heart with peace. Let me not go through any part of this night unaccompanied by Thee.

Give me sound and refreshing sleep;

Give me safety from all perils;

Give me in my sleep freedom from restless dreams;

Give me control of my thoughts, if I should lie awake;

Give me wisdom to remember that the night was made for sleeping, and not the harbouring of anxious or fretful or shameful thoughts;

Give me grace, if as I lie abed I think at all, to think upon Thee.

My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;

and my mouth shall praise Thee with joyful lips;

when I remember Thee upon my bed,

and meditate on Thee in the night watches.

To Thy care also, O Father, I would commend my friends, beseeching Thee to keep them safe in soul and body, and to be present in their hearts tonight as a Spirit of power and of joy and of restfulness. I pray for.... and.... and.... I pray also for the wider circle of all my associates, my fellow workers, my fellow townsmen and all strangers within our gates; and the great world of men without, to me foreign and unknown, but dear to Thee; through Jesus Christ our common Lord. Amen.

오 영원부터 영원까지 계신 주님,

어둠이 찾아오고 잠이 시작되는 이 시간에 다시 당신을 생각합니다.

내 영혼의 태양이신 주여,

이 밤 내내 영원한 빛 속에 거하시며 결코 잠들지 않으시는 주님의 시선 아래 제가 거할 것을 알기에 기뻐합니다.

오 아버지, 이제 제 몸과 영혼을 주의 돌보시는 품에 맡겨드립니다.

온종일 주께서 저를 감찰하셨고,

저와 동행해 주심으로 제 마음을 평강으로 채우셨습니다.

이 밤의 어느 한 조각이라도 주님과 동행하지 않고 지나는 순간이 없게 하소서.

이제 곤히 자고 새 힘을 얻게 하시며,

모든 위험에서 안전하게 지켜 주소서.

잠 못 이루게 하는 꿈에 시달리지 않게 하시고,

잠에서 깨어 누워있을 때에도 제 생각을 주장하여 주옵소서.

저에게 밤을 주신 것은 잠을 위함이요,

근심과 초조, 또 부끄러운 생각을 위함이 아님을 기억하는 지혜를 주옵소서.

잠자리에 누워 생각에 잠긴다면, 오직 당신만 생각하는 은혜를 베푸소서.

기름지고 맛있는 음식을 배불리 먹은 듯이 제 영혼이 만족하니,

제가 기쁨에 가득 찬 입술로 주님을 찬양하렵니다.

잠자리에 들어서도 주님만을 기억하고 밤을 새우면서도 주님만을 생각합니다.

오 아버지, 이제 제 친구들을 주께 의탁하오니 영육 간에 안전하게 지켜주시고,

이 밤 내내 권능과 희락과 안식의 성령께서 함께하여 주옵소서.

그리고 ______________를 위해 기도합니다.

그리고 모든 친척들과 동료들, 이 도시의 이웃들과 방문객들,

또 제게는 낯설고 또 잘 모르는 이들이지만 주께서 사랑하시는 이 세상까지 다 주님 손에 맡겨드립니다.
