8월 26일 스펄전 아침묵상 “여호와께서……그 언약을 영원히 세우셨으니.” [시편 111편 9절]

"He hath commanded his covenant forever" (Psalm 111: 9).

The Lord's people delight in the covenant.  It is an unfailing source of consolation to them as the Holy Spirit leads them into His banqueting house and waves His banner of love.  They delight to contemplate the antiquity of that covenant, remembering that before planets ran their round, the interests of the saints were made secure in Christ Jesus.  It is peculiarly pleasing to them to remember the sureness of the covenant.  They delight to celebrate it as signed, sealed, and ratified in all things.  It often makes their hears dilate with joy to think of its immutability, as a covenant which neither time nor eternity, life nor death, will ever be able to violate--a covenant as old as eternity and as everlasting as the Rock of ages.  They rejoice to feast on the fullness of this covenant, for they see all things provided for them in it.  God is their portion, Christ their companion, the Spirit their Comforter, earth their lodge, and heaven their home.  They see in it an inheritance reserved for every soul possessing salvation.  How their souls were gladdened when they saw in the last will and testament of their divine Kinsman that it was bequeathed to them!  More especially it is the pleasure of God's people to contemplate the graciousness of this covenant.  They see that the law was made void because it was a covenant of works and depended on merit.  But this they perceive to be enduring because grace is the basis.  The covenant is a treasury of wealth, a fountain of life, a strorehouse of salvation, a character of peace, and a haven of joy.

제목 : 언약을 영원히

요절 : "여호와께서 그 백성에게 구속을 베푸시며 그 언약을 영원히 세우셨으니 그 이름이 거룩하고 지존하시도다"(시111:9

주님의 백성들은 언약(하나님의 말씀)을 즐거워합니다. 언약은, 성령께서 그들을 하나님의 연회장으로 인도하시고 사랑의 깃발을 흔드심으로써, 그 백성들에게 다함 없는 위로의 원천이 되고 있습니다.

혹성들(유성들)이 그 궤도를 돌기 전에(즉 창세 전에) 성도들의 유익들(축복들)은 그리스도 예수 안에서 확보되었다는 것을 기억하면서, 창세 이전의  "그 태고성(太古性, the antiquity)"을 묵상하며 기뻐합니다. 또 성도들이 그 언약의 확실성(the sureness)을 기억하는 것은 그들에게 특별한 기쁨이 됩니다. 그들은 그 언약이 모든 면에서 잘 서명되고, 비준된 것을 기쁘게 찬양합니다.

시간이나 영원이나, 생명이나 사망도 결코 어길 수 없는 언약,  그 언약의 불변성(the immutability)을 생각할 때 그들의 가슴은 종종 벅차 오릅니다.(팽창합니다.)  그리고 그 언약은 영원만큼 오랜 언약이요 만고의 반석(예수님)만큼 영원히 계속될 언약입니다.

또 그들은 이 언약의 충만함(the fullness)을 즐기는 잔치를 베풉니다. 왜냐하면 그 언약 안에  성도들을 위하여 마련된 모든 것을 성도들이 보기 때문입니다. 하나님은 그들의 몫(소유)이고, 그리스도는 그들의 친구이고, 성령은 그들의 위로자(보혜자)이고, 이 땅은 그들의 나그네길의 여관이고, 하늘은 그들의 영원한 본향(집)입니다. 그들(성도들)은 그 언약 안에서 구원을 소유하고 있는 모든 영혼을 위하여 예비된 기업(유산)을 봅니다. 성도들이 그들의 거룩한 친족이신 그리스도의 유언장(the last will and testament)에서 그것이 그들에게 유증되었다는 것을 보면, 그들의 영혼이 얼마나 기쁘겠습니까!

이 언약의 인자함(the graciousness)을 묵상하는 것은 하나님의 백성들에게 더 유별난 기쁨이 됩니다. 그들은, 율법은 행위(믿음이 아닌)의 언약이었고 인간의 공로(공적)에 의지하였기 때문에 무효가 되었다는 것을 압니다. 그러나 그들은 은혜가 언약의 토대(바탕)이기 때문에 언약은 영원히 지속된다는 것을 압니다.(즉 율법처럼 무효가 되지 않습니다.) 참으로 언약은 부(富)의 보고요, 생명의 샘이요, 구원의 창고요, 평화의 헌장이요, 기쁨의 안식처(또는 항구)입니다.
